Thankfully there are still some kids who know how to wrap up a call for nonconformity in a pretty little angry box and spit it into the world. Mindless Self Indulgence is a New York band that has been around since 1997, and twelve years later, I happily "discover" them thanks to greatest tool to ever broaden my musical awareness...the internet and YouTube in particular. MSI fire out a hardcore mix of punk fused with a heavy electronic/industrial sound. I'm hearing a nice mix of Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down and believe it or not some Freddy Mercury! I hate to raise the anger of a bunch of Queen fans, but listen to this singer particularly when he sings:
Adolph fucking Hitler
With this swoopy emo-boy dreamy haircut
Dangling in our faces
Making us all indescribably indistinguishable from
Each other
That piano behind the lyrics doesn't hurt my observation.
So take a listen to Mindless Self Indulgence as they put on their Dr. Frankenstein persona and call up the monster who will eventually destroy everything...or will it simply churn out another mindless self indulgence for the kids to chew up and spit out?
The real Mark David Chapman has been denied parole five times.. Unfortunately, he is up for parole again in one year, August, 2010. With luck, he will be denied parole again, and forced to serve out the "life" portion of his twenty years to life sentence for the murder of John Lennon.
